Synaptics Partners With Murata for Automotive Connectivity Innovation

Synaptics Incorporated and Murata Manufacturing have announced a partnership to jointly develop a turnkey wireless connectivity module designed for automotive Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs. This module will integrate Synaptics’ Veros Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo systems on chips (SoCs) with Murata’s compact module design expertise. The collaboration aims to deliver solutions that meet the rigorous requirements of the automotive market including support for high-temperature operation, low power consumption and cost-efficient system design. The module design also emphasizes robustness under harsh conditions, reliability across varied environments and durability to match lifecycle expectations. With a turnkey approach, the solution simplifies integration and reduces development time.

The combined module will use Synaptics’ Veros family of wireless chips including the SYN4383 for Wi-Fi 6E and the SYN4384 for Wi-Fi 7 (both pin-to-pin compatible and software upgradable). It will also feature the high-speed SYN4390 for even greater Wi-Fi 7 performance. Synaptics has also outlined its roadmap for future releases including Wi-Fi 8, demonstrating a commitment to long-term support and innovation in automotive wireless connectivity.

Masatomo Hashimoto, Director of the Communication Module Division at Murata emphasized the shared focus on quality and integration by this partnership. He noted that Murata’s RF and module design capabilities will complement Synaptics’ Veros SoCs to produce reliable, miniaturized modules optimized for the automotive environment. Veros Seamless Intelligent Connectivity also comes with built-in support for Synaptics’ Astra AI-Native compute engine, unlocking advanced Internet-of-Things capabilities in vehicles.
